Bedrock Cottage

We enjoyed an idyllic respite at Patrick’s cottage on a hill overlooking the bay. Bedrock Cottage was a perfect spot from which to take day trips to Beara and Kerry Peninsulas, Kenmare, Killarney, and more. The cottage is perched above a valley, where on our first evening we watched a dog herd cattle back to a nearby barn. The view was different every day; the changing colors in the water and various formations of mists between mountains and water invariably spectacular. Bees, birds, and butterflies…lovely flowers and foliage…the setting is truly bucolic. Patrick was very responsive to our questions. This was our first trip to Ireland, and we loved it all—from the music and pints in the pubs to the cow standing atop a boulder on a remote outcropping near Allihies. We hope to return soon!

Bedrock Cottage exceeded out expectations. The house was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owner and manager were easy to deal with and anticipated all our needs. We chose this as a perfect spot from which to launch adventures in every direction but we were just as happy to be right there. Having the utilities included in the rental kept things simple. We highly recommend Bedrock Cottage.

The overall experience was great. The cottage is located hillside in an extremely quiet neighbourhood facing a great view over a bay with small montains in the background. The owners are very courteous and remarked that our 4 day – 3 person trip would cost the same if we enhanced it to 7 days – 4 persons. So we rescheduled our flight and got the cheapest holiday we ever had – calculated per day. We had a little trouble with the shower, but they got it fixed in no time.

The cottage is exactly as described. The view is beautiful , everything you need is available and the cottage is clean. It is about 9 Km. (10 minute drive) from Kenmare were you can find Aldi and Lidl and many nice restaurants. If you want to make day trips the cottage is situated central. The only “small” disadvantage is that if you want to take walks in the nature or beach you will need a car. The owner (Patrick) did leave small welcome presents and his phone number for us ,but did not introduced himself personally. Some people will like this other maybe not. All in all it was a very nice time in the Bedrock cottage.

Hillside view of inlet is beautiful. Bedrock cottage was a great find. It has a beautiful view of the lough or inlet and mountains beyond. Short drive to Kenmare which has many pub and restaurant offerings. A quiet hillside location surrounded by wildflowers. Could use a more comfortable couch.

The cottage has stunning views and is even ideal when the gales are howling and that horizontal rain lashing between the sunny days. The fishing was excellent. The cottage was sufficiently well away from centres of population to inspire some writing too. All in all a perfect stay, thank you Patrick.
